Can you feel poetry in a language you don’t speak?
For my first book project, I set out to gather seven Ukrainian poets from different eras – making their words resonate for any reader, regardless of language.
How? By using only typography, structure, and a few graphic lines, no illustrations, just meaning made visual.

Curation was personal: each poet, a voice I found powerful and uniquely Ukrainian.
The book is pure black-and-white, with red for sharp accents – both code and memory: red as protest, warning, love, the thread of collective memory. Each poem starts with a German intro about the author, followed by the poem in Ukrainian, and a short commentary in prose (also in German), offering a bridge between worlds.

Readers (even with no knowledge of the language) can feel when the mood turns from fragile to triumphant, or from longing to loss.
Every spread is a data-visualization of emotion through type – sometimes minimal, sometimes experimental or restless, but always human-focused.

The result is a book that makes poetry accessible beyond words like an emotional atlas of Ukrainian culture, crafted for empathy, curiosity, and a new kind of reading.
Both peers and professors noted: “the typography carries weight and feeling on its own.”
For me, the project redefined how I use type, not just to transmit words, but to translate experiences.
